At Abbott, we care about church planting because we believe it is one of the most effective ways to love and care for our city.
With close to 300 distinct neighborhoods, Baltimore is truly a city of neighborhoods. The people who live in these neighborhoods come from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, and cultural backgrounds. As a result, the contrast between these neighborhoods is often drastic.
Baltimore is also a city of great brokenness. The violent crime rate in the city consistently ranks in the top-10 in the country, the public school system is often ranked as the worst in the state of Maryland, and Baltimore has the dubious distinction of being the heroin capital of the world. In addition, nearly 75% of Baltimore’s residents are resistant to the Bible’s teachings.
At Abbott, we believe that God is in the business of making all things new. This includes the people and city of Baltimore. We also believe that planting new churches is one of the best ways that God has chosen to do this. Therefore, we are committed to planting gospel-centered, community-based churches in Baltimore that appropriately reflect the city’s distinct neighborhood cultures and proclaim the gospel in both word and deed.
